SCCA is an equal opportunity provider. View nondiscrimination statement.
SCCA participates in the Kansas State Department of Education Child and Adult Care Food Program. We are required to provide specific portion sizes, vitamins, and a variety of foods and textures for each meal. SCCA provides the following meals:
Breakfast – 8:00 a.m.
Infant/Toddler Lunch – 11:00 a.m.
Preschool Lunch – 11:30 a.m.
Afternoon Snack – 2:30 p.m.
All meals are served family style. Staff sit with the children at the table in small groups and socialization is encouraged. Preschool children are allowed to pour their own drinks, serve themselves as able, and help with preparation and serving. This is to be as much of the learning process as the rest of the curriculum.
Meals are carefully planned to provide children with nutritious, fresh, and often creative selections. Weekly menus are posted throughout the center. No child will be forced to eat, but positive modeling and encouragement are used. Meals are included in tuition fees. There is no additional cost.
Infant Feeding
To maintain consistency from home to center and meet the individual needs of children, babies will eat according to their own schedule. SCCA provides Parent’s Choice Sensitive, Parent’s Choice Advance formula, and Gerber infant food. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to provide other formula/food than those listed above.
Breastfeeding
If you are a nursing mother, we are more than happy to plan for you to visit your infant at any time. If the center is not convenient to your workplace for nursing visits, we are able to store milk daily as well as store a frozen supply.
To better serve our families, SCCA will remain open on a limited basis when USD 305 is closed for snow. Under this contingency plan, we hope to serve parents who must be at work and have NO other options for child care.
The following limits apply:
- If USD 305 is closed for snow or ice, SCCA will open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 4:30 p.m. Please pick up by 4:30 p.m. to avoid a late pick-up fee. (Note: SCCA may be able to stay open until 5:30 p.m. based on staffing and weather and road condition improvement. Parents will be notified early afternoon.)
- If USD 305 is closed due to cold temperatures (no snow or ice), SCCA will operate regular hours 6:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
- If USD 305 lets school out early due to snow, SCCA will operate regular hours until 5:30 p.m. Families may be called for early pick up if roads become impassable.
- In the event of a general shutdown and lack of necessary services (ex. no electricity, heat or water), or extremely heavy snow or ice with impassable roads, SCCA will not open.
Notification of late openings, early closings or complete closures will be posted on our Facebook page – Salina Child Care Association, as well as through the Brightwheel app.
